Mission: The mission of the Plano Youth Leadership (PYL) is to offer a leadership development and training program for the tenth grade students living in the area served by the Plano Independent School District.
Purpose: The purpose of PYL is to train students in leadership techniques and community awareness, so they will become familiar with current issues, community resources, opportunities, and other factors influencing the direction of their community's future. Through participation in the program, students will be prepared to make a positive impact on the quality of life in their community.
Format: Each year, a PYL class consists of no more than 35 students. The program runs concurrently with the school year, with monthly sessions being held. Tuition for the program is $100 per participant. Need-based financial assistance is available.
Participants: Students are selected in the spring of each year through a competitive application process. They must demonstrate an interest in acquiring leadership skills. The program seeks students who represent a cross section of Plano.
